Foundational Life Skills

Skills that set you up for a lifetime.

Foundational Life Skills focuses on skills that are immediately helpful and also create a foundation of learning for the future.  These are particularly useful for puppies, but can be of benefit for any aged dog, especially for a dog that might be new to you.  Concepts such as settling, dealing with novelty, getting your pup's attention, building trust and building skills for learning are worked on through skills such as drop It, targeting, settling on a mat, meeting (and/or not meeting) new dogs and people, learning to pay attention when you say their name and more.

Safety Skills

Skills that can save your pup's life!

Building on the Foundational Life Skills, this 4 week class incorporates skills that focus directly on safety.  This includes dropping something they already have, leaving something alone that they might want, coming when you call them and being able to create an emergency exit from a situation that is potentially dangerous- either physically or emotionally.

While you do not have to take the Foundational Life Skills class prior to this class, there is an assumption that you have at least begun the skills of nose target, drop it and the name game prior to the first session.

Skills for Learning

Coming Soon

Skills for learning focuses mainly on teaching you, the human, how to use concepts such as luring, shaping, targeting, capturing and cue transfers to help your dog learn to respond to cues for things like sit, down, wait, or things like shake and spin.

The concepts in this class build on the foundational life skills.  While it is not necessary to take that course first, there is an assumption that you have at least begun the skills of getting your dog's attention, nose target and settle on a mat prior to the first session.
